Agartala, 29th June 2024: In an effort to combat the rising tide of smuggling and drug abuse plaguing Sabroom sub-division, a crucial meeting convened at the Sabroom Nagar Panchayat conference hall on Saturday afternoon. The gathering was called by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Shibajyoti Datta aimed to rally support for initiatives aimed at curbing sugar smuggling and combating drug addiction within the community.
In this meeting, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Nityananda Sarkar, Deputy Commandant of BSF’s 109 Battalion Manjit Singh, Sabroom Nagar Panchayat Chairperson Rama Poddar Dey, former MLA Shankar Roy and other department heads were in attendance to strategize on these pressing issues.
During the meeting, discussions centered on effective measures to prevent sugar smuggling, with input from local merchant associations highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts in tackling the illicit trade. Additionally, plans for upcoming cultural festivities, including Vanamhotsav were outlined by the Sabroom Forest Department.
Addressing the assembly, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Nityananda Sarkar underscored the imperative to rescue youth from the scourge of drug addiction, emphasizing community-driven interventions as pivotal to success. The session concluded around 4:30 pm with a resolve to implement actionable strategies aimed at safeguarding the sub-division’s future.
