Agartala, 15th October 2024: In a coordinated effort to curb the sale of illegal firecrackers, the Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in West district and police administration launched a campaign against the sale of “fire crackers” (high-decibel firecrackers) in the Maharajganj market of Agartala city on Tuesday. Several shops were raided, and legal action will be taken against those found selling these items.
An official from the department stated that the raids were conducted ahead of Kojagari Lakshmi Puja and the upcoming Diwali festival, where the use of firecrackers often leads to noise pollution. “Raids were conducted in shops suspected of selling fire crackers. As the festival season approaches, we are taking strict action to prevent harmful noise pollution,” the official said.
The campaign uncovered several instances of illegal firecracker sales, and further legal steps will be taken against the shop owners in accordance with the law.
