Agartala, January 17: A group of 28 sanitation workers locked the main gate of the Amarpur Nagar Panchayat office on Wednesday, demanding their salaries that have been pending for five months.

The workers, who are responsible for collecting garbage from the houses of the Nagar Panchayat, said that they have been facing financial difficulties and hunger due to the non-payment of their wages. They also claimed that the checks issued by the Nagar Panchayat were not accepted by the bank.

The workers said that they have been facing similar problems in the past and warned that they will not tolerate such harassment every month. They said that they were forced to lock the gate as a last resort.

The protest drew the attention of the police of Birganj police station and the officials of the Nagar Panchayat, who arrived at the scene to pacify the workers. However, the workers refused to end their agitation until their demands were met. They also threatened to take further action if their situation did not improve.
