Agartala, 1st November 2024:   A series of thefts have exacerbated the hardships faced by flood-stricken residents of Santirbazar. On Diwali night, a gang, believed to be part of the notorious robbers, targeted an area near Santirbazar’s Anukul Thakur Ashram, looting a household already struggling to recover from flood losses. According to local sources, the thieves escaped with nearly Rs 21,000 in cash, gold jewelry, a gas cylinder and electronics including a television and sound system.

“The thieves are taking advantage of our vulnerability. We barely saved our possessions from the flood, and now they are gone,” a distressed resident recounted. The incident highlights a troubling rise in thefts across Santirbazar, with many areas reportedly facing similar intrusions.

Upon receiving the report, Santirbazar police promptly arrived at the scene to investigate. Authorities assured locals of intensified patrols to curb further criminal activities. “We are committed to ensuring safety for all residents during these challenging times,” a police official stated, pledging swift action against the perpetrators.
