Agartala Oct 26: In yet another major jolt for Tripura BJP government, the Supreme Court of India has dismissed SLP challenging High Court’s order of June, 2022 on compensation related to custodial murder victim Jamal Hossain’s family.

Notably, Jamal Hossain was killed in Sonamura Police Station’s Lock-up out of heavy custodial tortures.Speaking in this regard, Tripura High Court Lawyer and secretary of Tripura Human Rights Organization, Puroshattam Roy Barman said, “Tripura Govt is not left with any other option except accepting the High Court’s order”.

He added, “It can be said that Jamal’s family has received justice though there is no action against the Police officials yet who had brutally tortured Jamal to death in the custody”.

Barman added that Jamal Hossain’s family shall now fight legally to punish the police officials who are responsible for his death.Detailing the background of the incident Puroshattam Roy Barman said that the incident took place on September 14, 2021 when Sonamura Police arrested Jamal Hossain illegally and then brutally tortured him entire night.Next morning, Jamal’s family was informed about Jmal’s death.Jmal’s family fought for justice in the year 2022 and on June 2022 the then Chief Justice Indrajit Mohanty and Justice S Chattopadhyaya stated that the state government cannot refuse its liability to the victims of custodial deaths.

Therefore the state government has to accept Tripura High Court’s order on Rs 10 lakh compensation to Jamal’s family.
