SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das stresses need for dedicated officers

Date:

Agartala, 16th June 2026:  SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das on Tuesday emphasized the urgent need for dedicated officers at the Sub-Division and Block levels to ensure effective implementation of welfare schemes for the Scheduled Caste community.

Speaking at a meeting with Chairmen of SC Welfare Sub-Committees at the State Guest House (Sonar Tari), Das said the department has already submitted a proposal to the Finance Department for manpower creation to strengthen field-level activities. He stressed that Chairmen must be well-versed with departmental schemes, particularly in matters of approving and processing SC certificates.

The Minister highlighted that the department is maintaining the 17 percent reservation roster, finalised before Cabinet meetings, and recalled lapses during the LF government period that had cost jobs to SC candidates. He urged committee members to prepare proposals through SC Welfare Officers and District Welfare Officers, upload them online, and forward them for scrutiny.

Das announced sitting allowances of ₹1,000 for members and ₹3,000 for Chairmen, while underlining the importance of awareness programmes. He said officers at Block levels will soon be appointed and funds sanctioned for campaigns.

Accompanied by Secretary Deepa D Nair and Director in-charge Bhaswar Bhattacharjee, Das appealed for cooperation, noting this is the first time sub-committee Chairmen have returned for a second term.
