Agartala, 16th June 2026:  A devastating fire broke out at the court premises in Agartala on Tuesday morning, reducing several shops and a local club to ashes and triggering panic among people in the surrounding area. Thick smoke covered the locality as firefighters rushed to the spot and worked for hours to bring the blaze under control.

Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Deepak Majumder, accompanied by civic officials and fire department personnel, visited the affected area soon after the incident to assess the situation and oversee relief measures.

Expressing shock over the destruction, Mayor Majumder assured the affected shop owners of immediate support. He said, “The damage caused by the fire is unfortunate. The authorities will work together to clear the debris, assess the losses and take necessary steps to provide assistance to those affected.”

He further stated that a detailed investigation would be conducted to determine the exact cause of the fire. “A proper inquiry will be carried out. We will keep everyone informed after the investigation. People should remain calm while the administration takes steps to restore normalcy,” he added.

According to witnesses, the fire spread rapidly from the court area towards nearby shops, destroying valuable belongings and business materials. The local club, which had been a long-standing gathering place for residents, was also completely gutted, leaving locals saddened.

Several shopkeepers, who had been running their businesses for years, expressed concern over their losses and urged the authorities to extend quick assistance. No casualties were reported in the incident.

Police and fire officials have started collecting evidence to identify whether the fire was caused by an electrical fault, negligence or any other reason. Meanwhile, cleanup operations have begun and damaged areas have been cordoned off for safety.
