Agartala, 18th May 2025: Tension gripped the Srimantapur border area in Sonamura subdivision on Sunday afternoon after a school student sustained injuries in an alleged baton charge by the Border Security Force (BSF).
The injured student, identified as Faisal Hossain, was rushed to the Sonamura Social Health Center by local residents after he was reportedly beaten near the India-Bangladesh border adjacent to the Srimantapur land port. According to eyewitnesses, Faisal attempted to cross towards the border without heeding instructions from BSF personnel. In response, a BSF jawan allegedly struck the boy with a baton, leaving him injured. The sudden screams of the student alarmed nearby villagers, who immediately came to his rescue and arranged for his treatment.
The injured student’s father, Julhas Mia Moushan, along with other family members, rushed to the hospital upon receiving news of the incident. Speaking to reporters, a local member of Ward No. 1 in Srimantapur alleged that Faisal was “beaten severely and without provocation.”
A formal complaint has been lodged with the Sonamura Police Station by the victim’s family, demanding a fair investigation and justice for the alleged excessive use of force.Local authorities have yet to issue an official statement, while BSF sources have maintained that the action was a response to unauthorized movement near a sensitive border area.
