Agartala, 26th March 2026: A two-day congenital heart disease (CHD) screening camp, organized under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), was successfully held at IGM and Nursing Institute on March 25–26. The initiative aimed at ensuring a healthier future for children by identifying and treating heart defects at an early stage.
CHD is a condition present from birth, caused by structural defects in the heart. Without timely treatment, it can severely affect a child’s feeding, breathing, growth, and overall development. Experts advise that symptoms such as rapid breathing, poor weight gain, or bluish lips and nails should prompt immediate medical consultation. Modern medical interventions can successfully treat most cases if detected early.
A specialized cardiac team from Apollo Children’s Hospitals, Chennai, conducted detailed clinical examinations and evaluations during the camp. Suspected cases were identified by RBSK teams across eight districts and brought to the camp, ensuring wide participation.
In total, 112 children were screened. Of them, 65 were recommended for surgery, while 34 will undergo further observation and follow-up. The camp reaffirmed the commitment to early diagnosis and timely treatment of congenital heart disease, marking a significant step toward securing healthier futures for children.
The National Health Mission, Tripura, released an official statement highlighting the success of the program.
