Agartala, 24th September 2026 : Tripura State Election Commissioner Dr P K Chakraborty on Thursday reviewed election preparedness and security arrangements in North Tripura district ahead of the upcoming ADC Village Committee elections.
Chakraborty was accompanied by officiating Director General of Police G S Rao. A detailed meeting was held at the North Tripura district headquarters in Dharmanagar with senior administrative and police officials to assess preparations for the polls.
Officials including Returning Officers, Assistant Returning Officers, election observers, SDPOs, the District Superintendent of Police and other concerned officials attended the meeting.
Speaking after the meeting, Chakraborty said the Commission reviewed the preparations undertaken by the district administration in accordance with the State Election Commission’s guidelines. Discussions focused on the dispatch of polling personnel from dispatch centres to polling stations, security arrangements, voter awareness, monitoring on polling day and the return of polling personnel to receiving centres after voting.
The police administration briefed the Commission on the deployment of security forces, area domination operations, security arrangements at polling stations and communication facilities.
Chakraborty said the Commission was satisfied with the election preparedness in North Tripura and expressed confidence that the polls would be conducted in a free and peaceful atmosphere. Responding to a question on the deployment of central forces, he said central forces were already on duty and conducting area domination and patrolling operations in different areas.
Officiating DGP G S Rao said the preparations reviewed during the meeting were satisfactory, although some suggestions had been made regarding further measures.
He pointed out that several polling stations in North Tripura are located in remote and interior areas. Rainfall could create difficulties for the movement of polling personnel and security forces in some areas due to poor road conditions. The meeting also discussed limitations in mobile network connectivity in certain parts of the district.
Rao said a total of 74 companies of CRPF, CAPF, BSF, SSB and ITBP personnel had been made available for the Village Committee elections. Of these, around 12.5 companies have been allocated to North Tripura district. The forces have already been deployed in different areas and are carrying out area domination and patrolling operations.
He added that security arrangements would remain in place until the completion of the counting process.
Administrative and police officials said regular monitoring was being carried out to ensure that the polling process is completed smoothly and without disruption.
