Agartala, 24th September 2026 : A group of TET-qualified job aspirants staged a protest in Agartala on Thursday, demanding the immediate recruitment of all 1,856 candidates who cleared the TET-I and TET-II examinations in 2024.
The protesters approached the Chairman of the Joint Recruitment Board of Tripura (JRBT), seeking the publication of the recommended candidates’ list and completion of the recruitment process without further delay.
According to the job aspirants, after qualifying in TET-I and TET-II in 2024, an eligible candidates’ list was prepared and they subsequently applied for recruitment against government-designated GT and UT posts. They claimed that the document verification process for around 1,856 candidates had also been completed.
However, despite the passage of considerable time, the recommended candidates’ list has not yet been published, they alleged.
The protesters said they had approached the JRBT several times over the issue but had not received a satisfactory resolution. They reiterated that there should be no further selection or exclusion and that all 1,856 candidates who qualified in the 2024 TET-I and TET-II examinations should be appointed together.
The aspirants also claimed that they had repeatedly sought appointments with Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha and Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy to discuss the recruitment issue, but had not been able to meet them.
As the protest intensified, police intervened to bring the situation under control. The police reportedly used a water cannon to disperse the protesters and detained several of the agitating job aspirants. They were subsequently taken to the AD Nagar Police Lines ground in Agartala.
The protesters said prolonged uncertainty over recruitment had caused them financial and mental distress. They demanded that the government complete the recruitment process at the earliest and ensure employment for all eligible candidates.
The aspirants warned that they would launch a larger agitation if the issue was not resolved immediately. They said they were prepared to undertake further programmes, including a mass sit-in and hunger strike, to press for their demands.
