Agartala, 1st October 2026 : A one-day seminar on ‘Hindi: Past, Present and Future’ was organised at Tripura University on September 30 under the joint initiative of the Department of Hindi and the Bharatiya Bhasha Manch. The programme focused on the evolution of Hindi, its present status and the challenges and opportunities shaping its future.
The seminar began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by the university anthem. Dr. Bina Debbarma delivered the welcome address, while students added cultural colour to the programme through poetry recitations and dance performances.
The e-edition of the Department of Hindi’s wall magazine was also launched during the event. Speakers appreciated the initiative, describing it as an important platform for encouraging and showcasing students’ creativity.
Head of the Department, Prof. Milan Rani Jamatia, congratulated the magazine’s editor and seminar convener, Dr. Alok Kumar Pandey, for the initiative. Dr. Kali Charan Jha spoke on the status of Hindi as the official language and the challenges confronting its wider development.
Dr. Shankar Nath Tiwari observed that Hindi has significant prospects in the future, while Dr. Manoj Kumar Maurya highlighted the contribution of journalism to the growth and development of the language.
Presiding over the seminar, Prof. Vinod Kumar Mishra, Dean of the Faculty of Literature, emphasised the importance of giving Hindi sustained attention and said that every day should be celebrated like ‘Hindi Diwas’.
The proceedings were conducted by Munni Chakma and Raktima Deka, while Dr. Alok Kumar Pandey proposed the vote of thanks. Teachers, research scholars and a large number of students attended the seminar.
