Agartala, 19th March 2024:  In a decisive crackdown on illegal logging activities, the Sepahijala District Forest Department, led by official Samir Deb, intercepted a vehicle laden with illicitly obtained tree logs in the Ghanimara area of Taltala. The operation, which took place on Tuesday afternoon, was swiftly launched following a tip-off about the forest bandits’ activities, including the unlawful felling and market sale of tree logs.

The department’s personnel, in collaboration with the Charilam Forest Department staff, embarked on a raid that led to the finding of the vehicle, bearing the registration number TR01Z1636, in the midst of transportation by the culprits. Upon sighting the forest officials’ vehicle, the perpetrators abandoned their cargo and fled the scene.

The forest team, under Deb’s guidance, secured the vehicle and its illegal contents, subsequently transporting them to the Forest Department office for further investigation. The operation continued in the Taltala area, where, despite the bandits receiving prior notice and evading capture, the officials recovered additional equipment, including a generator, and a sawmill, all implicated in the illicit logging activities.

The Taltala area has been a hotspot for such illegal operations, with tree logs being covertly cut and sold through underhanded means. The district forest department is committed to identifying the individuals involved in these incidents and ensuring they face legal consequences for their actions. This recent operation underscores the department’s relentless efforts to protect the region’s forests and uphold environmental laws.
