Agartala, 7th August 2025:   At least seven people, including a woman, were injured in a violent clash that broke out late Wednesday night in Hirachara village under the Gournagar RD Block in Tripura’s Unakoti district. The violence was reportedly triggered by allegations of dog slaughter and illegal meat sale.

According to Tripura Police sources, the injured were rushed to Bhagaban Nagar District Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.

Tensions had reportedly been simmering in the area for several days after three individuals were accused of slaughtering and selling dog meat. One of the accused, identified as Pintu Das, has been on the run since the allegations surfaced.

The situation escalated on Wednesday night when relatives of Pintu Das allegedly attacked the house of Rajaram Nunia Munda, who had filed a complaint in connection with the alleged dog slaughter.

“In an attempt to stop the assault, several people, including my wife, were injured,” Rajaram told reporters.

He further claimed that his younger brother Golap Chasha and another villager, Sultan Ali, were attacked with sharp weapons and are currently in critical condition at the hospital.

Meanwhile, in a counter-allegation, relatives of Pintu Das have accused Rajaram and his associates of attacking their family and vandalising their home.

Upon receiving information, a large police team from Kailashahar and Irani police stations, led by Kailashahar SDPO Jayanta Karmakar, rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

“We have deployed additional security forces to maintain peace in the area. The situation is now under control,” SDPO Karmakar said.An investigation into the incident is underway.
