Seven years, no closure: Job aspirants protest JRBT’s recruitment delay

Date:

Agartala, 27th October 2026 : Discontent among unemployed youths in Tripura intensified on Tuesday as job aspirants staged a protest against the Joint Recruitment Board of Tripura (JRBT), demanding the immediate publication of a merit list and completion of the pending Group-C recruitment process.

The candidates alleged that the recruitment process, initiated in 2021, has remained incomplete for years, leaving thousands of aspirants uncertain about their future. The delay has triggered growing resentment among candidates who claim that despite clearing the written examination, they have been denied their rightful opportunity for employment.

The JRBT conducted examinations for Group-C posts in 2021 and declared the written results in 2023. According to the protesting candidates, against 2,430 vacancies, the board initially filled only 1,980 posts, leaving several vacancies unfilled. They also alleged discrepancies in the selection process, claiming that some candidates with low marks were appointed while deserving candidates with higher scores were excluded.

After approaching the High Court, the aggrieved candidates received a favourable order directing the JRBT to publish the roll numbers of successful candidates and fill the remaining vacancies. However, the protesters alleged that the board failed to complete the process by the October 22 deadline set by the court.

When candidates approached JRBT Chairman Biswajit Pal on Tuesday, he reportedly stated that he had recently assumed office and needed time to examine the actions taken by his predecessors.

Dissatisfied with the response, the aspirants took to the streets. Personnel from West Agartala Police Station reached the spot and attempted to bring the situation under control.

The protesters demanded immediate action, stating that prolonged recruitment delays were causing severe uncertainty for unemployed youths and undermining their hopes of securing government jobs.
