Agartala, 30th May 2025: The road adjacent to the Ardhendu Smriti Bhavan, the cultural and administrative hub of Dharmanagar has become nearly impassable due to large potholes caused by recent heavy rains. With accumulated rainwater making walking difficult, locals are raising concerns over the persistent neglect of the area.
The problem has been exacerbated by the prolonged closure of the main road next to the town hall, blocked by an ongoing construction project. As a result, residents and vehicle operators have been forced to use a narrow lane as an alternative route. However, this lane itself is in an alarming state, riddled with potholes, making daily commutes hazardous.
More than a hundred e-rickshaws, autos, bikes, and countless pedestrians rely on this route daily, facing the constant risk of accidents. Expressing frustration over the deteriorating conditions, an e-rickshaw driver shared his ordeal: “The road condition is so bad that it is difficult to travel with passengers. The car keeps shaking, the passengers get annoyed. Even the equipment of the car is getting damaged.”
Local commuters and vehicle operators are urging authorities to take swift action to restore the road and ensure safer travel conditions. Many fear that if the issue is not addressed soon, the deteriorating infrastructure could lead to serious accidents.
Residents are now looking to municipal authorities for immediate intervention. While no official statement has been released regarding potential repairs, the rising public outcry highlights the urgent need for infrastructural improvements.
