Agartala, 30th May 2025: Dharmanagar police carried out a major anti-drug operation early this morning recovering a significant quantity of narcotics and weapons from the Sonarerbasa area of Dharmanagar subdivision. The operation was conducted following secret intelligence received by the police.
According to officials, the special raid took place at around 3 am at the residence of Helal Mia in the Sonarerbasa area. Acting on the tip-off regarding illegal narcotics storage, a joint operation was led by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) and the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dharmanagar police station.
During the raid, police personnel recovered 7,800 Yaba tablets, a pistol, and four live bullets from the premises. Police confirmed that Helal Mia’s wife, Mamon Begum was taken into custody and brought to Dharmanagar police station for further questioning.
Speaking to reporters, Superintendent of Police (SP) Avinash Rai of North Tripura district emphasized the department’s firm stance against drug-related offenses. “We are committed to ensuring that drug trafficking and illegal activities are eliminated from the region. Such operations will continue with full force,” he said.
The police have assured that further investigations are underway, and strict action will be taken against individuals involved in such illegal activities.
