Agartala, September 27, 2022: Agartala Municipal Corporation has decided for the first time that all clubs, organizations, puja committees and puja entrepreneurs of Municipal Corporation area will be awarded with trophies along with prize money in various categories, said AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder on Tuesday.
The various categories are- Best Idol, Best Mandap, Best Theme, Best Lighting Decoration and Complete Puja Conducted by Women etc. These 5 awards will be given for the entire city of Agartala. There will be a prize money of Rs 50 thousand and a trophy. Again 4 more prizes will be given zone wise which include- Best Idol, Best Mandap, Best Theme and Best Lighting Decoration etc. There will be a prize money of Rs 25 thousand rupees and a trophy, he added.
Speaking to media persons at the Conference Hall of AMC here on Tuesday noon, Majumder said “The awards will be given according to the judgment of the judges while maintaining complete impartiality. In any case, the prize money will be divided equally if considered for joint prizes in the same category as judged by the judges. Puja permission form and application form for this award are being distributed in 4 zones of Municipal Corporation. All Clubs, Organizations, Puja Committees, Puja Entrepreneurs of Municipal Corporation area can collect these forms from their respective zones.”
“Dasmighat has been extensively renovated by the Agartala Municipal Corporation to complete the desecration of the idols properly. These include road maintenance, lighting, adequate security arrangements and complete desecration of idols with additional trolleys. Besides, the following decisions were taken unanimously. This time musical instruments, Manglik program conducted by women has been organized by Agartala Municipal Corporation as an alternative measure to ban entry to idols’ immersion place at Dashmighat with DJ system. Temporary facilities will be arranged for Dashmighat. Adequate manpower arrangements will be kept in three shifts for idol cleaning. Manglik program has been arranged by Agartala Municipal Corporation. Adequate cover has been provided at Dashmighat for idol worship. Arrangement of two cranes will be kept for lowering the idol. 1 bag of bleaching powder will be provided to each club. 3 dustbins will be provided in each club. From Panchani to Dashami, 2 workers will be given in each club”, he also added.
Apart from this, work is going on to decorate six other main roads of Agartala city with colourful lights. These include – From Post Office Chowmuhani to Kaman Chowmuhani, Math Chowmuhani to MBB College Gate, OLD RMS Chowmuhani to North Gate via Colonel Chowmuhani, Durga Chowmuhani to Battala, from Battala Shiva Temple to Dashmighat, from North Gate to GAIL Office and from Shankar Chowmuhani to Colonel Chowmuhani. Also, in each ward on an urgent basis, Rs 6 lakh has been allotted for the repair work before the puja, now it has been decided to pay another Rs 4 lakh.
“A large number of irregular workers have been associated with the Agartala Municipal Corporation for a long time. Many of these workers are involved in cleaning roads and drains, while others are involved in the day-to-day work of drivers and offices. Many others are involved in malaria spray and ward sanitation and sewer cleaning. In total, 2163 such irregular workers are engaged in various jobs in Agartala Municipal Corporation. For a long time, he had been demanding wage hike from the old government. The current BJP government after coming to power in the Agartala Municipal Corporation has reviewed the wage hike demands of irregular workers with special emphasis. The current BJP government has decided to increase the wages of a total of 2,163 workers by Rs 52 per head per day”, Majumder told reporters.
