Six held in Agartala city with contraband worth Rs 2 lakh

Agartala, 20th May 2024 :   Tripura Police arrested six individuals and seized contraband items worth Rs 2 lakh from Agartala city in two separate operations.

Speaking with reporters, Officer-in-Charge of East Agartala Police Station Sanjit Sen said that late last night they received a tip-off that a group of youths was selling brown sugar near a school in Agartala.

“Based on this, we rushed to the spot and found that three persons were selling brown sugar under the leadership of one Panna Kar Chowdhury. We detained the trio and seized two pouches of brown sugar and some empty vials. Upon interrogation, they revealed that two more persons were selling drugs near Agartala Women’s College, and we detained them as well,” he told reporters.

The arrested persons were identified as Panna Kar Chowdhury, Ajay Pal, Arjun Pal, Pritush Sarkar, and Abhijit Saha. They were operating as a chain and selling drugs in and around Agartala city.

“We have seized 14 grams of brown sugar, 360 vials, two bikes, one scooty, and some Indian currency from their possession. The drugs are worth Rs 70,000,” said the officer.

Meanwhile, West Agartala Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Paritosh Das said, “Late last night, we received a tip-off about a person identified as Amit Debbarma who was storing a large cache of cannabis in a rented house. Based on this, we conducted a raid and seized 36 kgs of cannabis, with a market price of around Rs 1.50 lakh. We have arrested him, registered a case against him, and produced him before the court seeking police remand.”
