Six Tripura Civil Service Officers Elevated to IAS in Provisional Promotion Order

Agartala, 25th May 2026: The Government of India, through the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, has issued a notification approving the induction of six officers from the Tripura Civil Service (TCS) into the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).

The appointments have been made in accordance with the provisions of the IAS (Recruitment) Rules, 1954, the IAS (Appointment by Promotion) Regulations, 1955, and the IAS (Probation) Rules, 1954. All selected officers will remain on probation until further orders and have been allocated to the Tripura Cadre under the IAS (Cadre) Rules, 1954.

The officers included in the select list are Sarmistha Datta, Bimbisar Bhattacharya, Dr. Samit Roy Choudhury, Akinchan Sarkar, Sumit Lodh, and Rajesh Kumar Das. These selections have been made against vacancies arising during the period from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025.

However, the promotions are subject to ongoing legal proceedings. These include a Special Leave Petition pending before the Supreme Court of India regarding seniority disputes within the Tripura Civil Service, as well as an Original Application before the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) concerning IAS promotion matters from the Tripura cadre.

The government has clarified that the appointments are provisional in nature and will comply with the final outcomes of the pending judicial cases.
