Agartala, 27th May 2025: In an initiative to promote women’s self-reliance, the government of India and the state government jointly organized a skill development training program in the handicraft sector under the Design Development Workshop NHDP Scheme. The event took place today in the Dakshin Charilam Gram Panchayat area of Charilam Block, Sepahijala District.
The workshop was attended by Sipahijala Zilla Parishad Sabhadipati Supriya Das Datta, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Handicrafts Pampa Karmakar, Charilam Block Community Development Officer Krittika Saha and Bhajan Sharma along with other officials.
A total of 30 women from different Gram Panchayats and Village Committees in Charilam Block participated in the training. On the concluding day, the trainees showcased their handcrafted dolls and toys, receiving appreciation from the Zilla Sabhadipati and the Deputy Director of the Ministry of Handicrafts.
The training was conducted by expert trainers Mallika Debbarma and Siddhartha Roy from Delhi, equipping participants with essential skills in the craft. Addressing the media, Deputy Director Pampa Karmakar highlighted the significance of such programs in fostering self-employment opportunities for women in the region.
