Agartala, 27th May 2025: Bus operators on the Teliamura-Agartala route have suspended services indefinitely citing severe financial losses caused by the increasing dominance of electric and CNG-powered auto-rickshaws. The move has triggered widespread frustration among daily commuters, who have been left stranded for the past two days.
“There are 28 buses operating on this route, but due to the frequent trips offered by electric and CNG autos, our passenger load has drastically reduced,” said a bus worker, echoing the concerns of many in the industry. He further stated, “If this continues, buses will cease operations entirely.”
In a bid to push for a resolution, bus operators ceased services from Monday morning, causing significant disruptions in Teliamura. Long queues of stranded passengers were observed at various bus stands, many struggling to find alternative transport. Among them were sick patients attempting to travel to Agartala for treatment, only to be forced to return home due to the lack of available transport.
Adding to the tension, Max car drivers have stepped forward in solidarity with bus operators, supporting the demand for a structured transport solution. This morning, drivers and workers were seen preventing auto-rickshaws from picking up passengers at key stands, exacerbating the unrest.
“This is unjustified. The administration needs to intervene immediately,” expressed a visibly distressed commuter. However, as of this afternoon, no official steps have been taken to address the situation, fueling growing resentment among the public. With no resolution in sight, residents fear prolonged travel difficulties, hoping authorities will step in to mediate a fair solution between competing transport services.
