Agartala, 28th March 2024 :  Allegations of irregularities have surfaced against the Agartala Municipal Corporation regarding the allocation of space for small traders and interim vendors at the ‘Chaitra Mela’. In response, the affected businessmen staged a protest in front of the AMC office on Thursday, demanding prompt resolution of the issue. They sternly warned that if their demands are not met, there will be no fair this year.

Local businessmen had been informed earlier that the municipality would provide forms for temporary stall sheds at the ‘Chaitra Mela’. However, for the past three days, they have been unable to obtain these forms despite their efforts. According to their complaint, when they went to collect the forms at the AMC on Thursday, they were informed that the forms had already run out. This revelation has left the small traders deeply frustrated.

Furthermore, they claim that 679 forms have been issued for temporary stall sheds, but they have yet to see any evidence of this. To collect these forms, they are required to submit their Aadhaar cards to the municipality. Therefore, they demand proof that the municipality has indeed collected 679 Aadhaar cards for the temporary stall sheds. Only then will they call off their protest. If this is not done, they insist that stall sheds must be provided for their businesses.
