Son arrested for brutal assault on mother over Betel Nut dispute in North Tripura

Agartala, 13th October 2025:   An incident of domestic violence has emerged from the Lakshmipur area of Dasda under Kanchanpur subdivision, where a man allegedly launched a brutal attack on his own mother over a dispute related to the sale of betel nuts.

Local sources informed that the accused identified as Bikram Nath had been subjecting his mother Anjali Nath to prolonged physical and mental abuse stemming from a longstanding feud over ancestral property.

The situation escalated yesterday around 6 am when a heated argument broke out between the two regarding the sale of betel nuts. In a fit of rage, Bikram reportedly broke down the door and assaulted his mother in a vicious manner.

When Anjali’s daughter Anita Nath tried to intervene, she too was allegedly assaulted by Bikram. Anita, with the help of local residents later rushed her mother found unconscious and bleeding to the Dasda Primary Health Centre, where she remains in critical condition, battling for her life.

Speaking to the media personnel, Anita Nath said, “My mother has endured my brother’s abuse for years. Today, he nearly killed her. I demand justice from the authorities.”

Hospital sources have confirmed that Anjali Nath’s condition is extremely serious. Meanwhile, Kanchanpur police have arrested Bikram Nath in connection with the attack. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and concern in the local community.
