Son Kills Father Over smoking in Salema

Agartala, 6th March 2026 : In a shocking incident, a father was killed by his son over a minor dispute involving cigarettes. The tragic event occurred today morning around 7 a.m. in Abhanga Fishery neighborhood under Salema Police Station.

The accused, Mangal Sinha, 47, who is reportedly suffering from a mental illness, attacked his father, Maner Sinha, 83, after an argument over a few missing cigarettes. According to the victim’s wife, Bindoni Sinha, Mangal had opened several cigarettes from his father’s pack earlier that morning. When Maner Sinha noticed that some cigarettes were missing and questioned his son, Mangal became agitated. He reportedly took a machete from under the bed and struck his father in the abdomen, causing his immediate death.

Police, led by Deshai Rushikesh Jaysing, Superintendent of Police of Dhalai District, along with Additional SP Uttam Banik and Salema Police Station OC Deepak Das, rushed to the scene. The suspect has been taken into custody, and the case is under investigation.

The incident has created widespread shock and fear in the local community.
