Agartala, 17th July 2024: Sonamura District Congress has lodged a formal complaint against the Sub-Divisional Police Administration and Block Returning Officer, alleging interference in the nomination process for opposition party candidates in Nalchar, Mohanbhog and Boxanagar within the Sonamura sub-division’s four blocks.
District Congress President Deepak Chakraborty voiced the party’s grievances during a press conference held at the Sonamura District Congress Building on Wednesday. According to Chakraborty, Congress candidates were scheduled to submit their nomination papers to the respective Block Development Officers (BDO) on the designated day to ensure a peaceful process. The Congress party had duly informed the district administration and the sub-divisional police, requesting security for the proceedings.
However, in a sudden turn of events, the Sonamura sub-divisional police administration summoned Congress leaders to the Sonamura police station, instructing them to refrain from submitting their nominations on July 16. Consequently, Congress candidates were compelled to file their nomination papers on July 18, as stated by party officials. They asserted that the administration would bear responsibility for any attacks on Congress workers.
Boxanagar Block Congress President Habil Mia also attended the press conference, supporting the allegations made by the district leadership.
