Agartala, 2nd May 2025: Mohammad Sajjad P, the district magistrate (DM) of the South Tripura district visited the dam along the banks of the Manu River at Barkhola in Sabroom on Friday. He was accompanied by the Dakshin Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadipati as part of an initiative to assess infrastructural conditions ahead of scheduled repair work.
Following the inspection, he spoke with media personnel and stated that Chief Minister (Dr.) Manik Saha has instructed high-ranking administrative officials to prioritize the renovation of damaged dams across the state before the onset of the monsoon season. In adherence to this directive, the DM visited the Manu River dam to evaluate its current condition.
During the visit, he observed that local residents had created ponds on both sides of the dam, weakening the structure further. He urged them to promptly fill the ponds or refrain from engaging in activities that could compromise the dam’s stability. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of direct communication with locals, stating that such interactions provide valuable insight into community concerns.
Authorities have assured that restoration work on the Manu River dam will commence shortly under administrative supervision.
