Agartala, 24th October 2025:   Tripura Legislative Assembly Speaker Bishwabandhu Sen (72), who has been undergoing treatment at Aster CMI Hospital in Bengaluru, is showing signs of improvement, according to the latest medical report.

Mr. Sen, who was admitted to the hospital on August 11, 2025, is now breathing on his own after being taken off artificial respiratory support. His condition has gradually stabilized, and he is currently under the care of Dr. Ravi Gopal Varma, Director and Lead Consultant Neurosurgeon at the hospital’s Global Center for Excellence.

Earlier, in Tripura, Mr. Sen underwent a decompressive craniotomy to relieve pressure caused by a gangliocapsular hemorrhage (bleeding in the left region of his brain). Following the procedure, he was airlifted to Bengaluru for advanced neurological care.

Upon arrival, doctors conducted several procedures to manage his condition. On August 12, a right frontal external ventricular drain (EVD) was placed to remove excess brain fluid, and on August 14, a tracheostomy was performed. His condition improved gradually, allowing doctors to transfer him to the general ward.

However, on October 2, his response levels decreased slightly, prompting a CT scan that revealed hydrocephalus—an accumulation of fluid in the brain. Doctors then performed a programmable ventriculo-peritoneal (VP) shunt surgery, which was successfully completed.

At present, Mr. Sen remains stable in the ward. He continues to breathe independently through the tracheostomy, his oxygen levels are normal, and he is being fed via a PEG tube.

Doctors have informed that once the custom cranial implant arrives, Mr. Sen will undergo cranioplasty (reconstruction of the skull bone). Following that, he will begin a comprehensive rehabilitation program combining physiotherapy, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), and Ayurvedic therapy to aid recovery.

According to a statement from the Tripura Legislative Assembly Secretariat, based on a report from Consultant Neurosurgeon Dr. Nirmala S. at Aster CMI Hospital, Mr. Sen’s condition is stable, and his recovery is progressing steadily under close medical supervision
