Special bike patrols to ensure nighttime security in Agartala: OC Krishnadhan Sarkar

Date:

Agartala, 9th October 2026 :  Special night-time bike patrols will continue regularly across Agartala to strengthen security and ensure that people, particularly women and elderly citizens, can move freely without fear during the upcoming Durga Puja and Kali Puja festivities, said East Agartala Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Krishnadhan Sarkar.

Sarkar said the special patrolling initiative had been undertaken in accordance with the instructions of the Director General of Tripura Police and the Superintendent of Police, West District, to maintain law and order and prevent theft, snatching, robbery and other criminal activities during the festive season.

Police personnel conducted extensive bike patrols across several areas under East Agartala Police Station, including Motor Stand, Kaman Choumuhani, Golbazar, Pratapgarh, MBB College, Jogendranagar, Bankumari, Aralia, Chandrapur, Ashram Choumuhani, Dhaleswar and Town Hall. Officers-in-charge of the Maharajganj and College Tilla police outposts also participated in the operation along with other police personnel.

Explaining the objective of the drive, Sarkar said police were paying special attention to narrow lanes and bylanes where four-wheelers could not easily enter. Bike patrols would enable officers to reach such areas quickly and respond to suspicious activities.

Referring to a recent snatching incident in Shibnagar, he said police had recovered the stolen items and apprehended the gang allegedly involved in the crime. He added that strict action was also being taken against traffic violations, including drunk driving, riding without helmets and reckless motorcycle driving.

During the patrol, police seized vehicles for traffic violations and detained several motorcycles for excessive speeding, Sarkar said, adding that enforcement measures were necessary to prevent dangerous behaviour and curb activities that could threaten public safety.

He emphasised that the special patrols were not a one-time exercise but would continue regularly, although the number of motorcycles deployed might vary depending on requirements.

“Our objective is to ensure that people can move around freely and safely, even late at night, without any fear or apprehension. We want everyone to enjoy the upcoming Durga Puja and Kali Puja peacefully, without any untoward incidents,” Sarkar said.

He also extended advance greetings to the people on behalf of the police and appealed for public cooperation in maintaining peace and security during the festive season.
