Agartala, 9th October 2026 : Protesting the alleged disruption of drinking water supply for three months, residents of Ward No. 3 under West Ichai Lalchhara Gram Panchayat staged a road blockade at Lalchhara market in the Bagbasa Assembly constituency of North Tripura on Friday.
The agitated residents alleged that they had been deprived of regular drinking water for the past three months, causing severe hardship to local families. According to them, repeated appeals to the local Panchayat Pradhan and the Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) Department failed to resolve the problem. They claimed that even after informing the department about the issue as recently as Monday, no technician or worker had visited the area to restore the supply.
Frustrated by the alleged inaction, the villagers resorted to blocking the road at Lalchhara market to press for an immediate solution.
The local Panchayat Pradhan, however, maintained that the drinking water supply remained normal in other parts of the area and attributed the disruption in the market locality to a mechanical fault.
Meanwhile, local MLA Jadab Lal Nath reportedly spoke to the protesting residents over the phone and assured them that the problem would be resolved within five days.
Following the assurance, the protesters withdrew the blockade but warned that they would resume their agitation if the drinking water supply was not restored within the stipulated period.
Residents are now waiting for the DWS Department and the local administration to take the necessary steps to address the prolonged water crisis and ensure regular drinking water supply to the affected locality.
