Agartala, 10th July 2026: The All Tripura SPO Families Welfare Association on Friday submitted a memorandum to the Director General of Police (DGP), Tripura, demanding the immediate fulfillment of a 10-point charter aimed at improving the service conditions and welfare of Special Police Officers (SPOs).
The association’s key demands include the regularization of SPO services, pay and allowances on par with police constables, inclusion under the National Pension System (NPS), payment of Dearness Allowance (DA) and Travelling Allowance (TA), as well as uniform, ration, rifle, and medical allowances. The memorandum also seeks other social security benefits and the provision of a 13th month’s salary instead of the existing 12-month payment structure.
Members of the association stated that SPOs have been serving in high-risk law-and-order duties for many years despite continuing in temporary positions. They alleged that SPOs receive significantly lower salaries than regular police personnel and are deprived of pension benefits, healthcare facilities, social security, and other essential service benefits.
As the DGP was not present at the headquarters, a delegation submitted the memorandum to the Deputy Inspector General (Headquarters).The association alleged that despite repeatedly raising these issues over the years, no effective steps have been taken by the government. It warned that if the demands are not addressed promptly, it would be compelled to launch a larger democratic movement.
Representatives of the association emphasized that SPOs have dedicated years of service under challenging and hazardous conditions, and urged the government to take immediate steps to ensure job security and provide them with their rightful service benefits.
