Agartala, 30th September 2026 : Srinagar Kabi Sukanta Vidyalaya is facing a serious shortage of teaching staff, with only four teachers currently managing students from Nursery to Class V, creating difficulties in conducting regular academic activities.
Teacher Baby Deb Sarkar said the school has been functioning with just four teachers for nearly two years. She said the situation has become more challenging after the introduction of the Nursery section, as no additional teachers or support staff, including an Aya, have been provided.
According to Sarkar, one of the four teachers is also engaged in Booth Level Officer (BLO) duties and frequently has to remain outside the school, further increasing the workload on the remaining staff. She said the authorities, Headmaster and concerned committees have already been informed about the shortage and requested the appointment of at least two or three additional teachers.
The teacher also highlighted infrastructure-related problems. During rainfall, water and mud reportedly enter one of the rooms where students are accommodated, making classes difficult. Although there had been discussions about constructing a new building and demolishing the old rooms, no visible progress has been made, she said.
Students also voiced concerns over the shortage of teachers and inadequate classroom facilities. They said a single teacher often has to manage multiple classes, affecting regular lessons. Another student pointed out the shortage of benches, with several children having to share seats.
The school community has urged the authorities to address the shortage of teachers, provide necessary support staff and improve the infrastructure at the earliest.
