Agartala, 30th September 2026 : Eight people from three districts of Tripura have been recognised by the state government for stepping forward to assist accident victims and ensuring that the injured received timely medical attention.
Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury presented the ‘Rahaveer’ (Good Samaritan) Awards to the recipients at a programme organised by the Transport Department at Conference Hall No. 1 of the Tripura Secretariat on Wednesday. Each awardee was given a cash prize of ₹25,000 along with a certificate of appreciation.
The awardees included Kajal Debnath and Prasenjit Bhowmik jointly, Ashesh Das, Khurshid Mia and Ajit Das from Gomati district; Satyajit Kumar Shil and Satya Ranjan Debnath from Dhalai district; and Latika Sinha from Unakoti district.
Addressing the gathering, Chowdhury said the award was intended to acknowledge people who did not remain passive after witnessing road accidents but took immediate steps to help the victims.
He said taking an injured person to hospital without wasting time could make a crucial difference in saving a life. According to the minister, the awardees demonstrated courage and a sense of social responsibility by overcoming hesitation and extending assistance when it was most needed.
“The core message of the ‘Rahaveer’ initiative is clear—step forward to help the injured after an accident, rush them to the hospital and assist in saving a precious life,” Chowdhury said.
He further called upon members of the public to respond responsibly whenever they encounter road accidents and stressed that humanitarian assistance during such emergencies can encourage a stronger culture of compassion within society.
Congratulating the award recipients, the minister said their actions could serve as an example for others and encouraged people to come forward rather than remain bystanders when accident victims require immediate help.
Transport Department Secretary Kiran Gitte, Secretary Milind Ramteke and other senior officials were present at the programme.
