Agartala, 30th September 2026 : The Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) has raised strong objections over an incident involving a senior resident doctor on duty at the Medicine OPD, citing concerns over the safety, professional dignity and workplace security of doctors and healthcare workers.
Protesting the incident and demanding action against those responsible, the RDA has announced a sit-in demonstration in front of the college principal’s office from 9 am on Thursday. The association has also submitted a five-point memorandum to the college authorities outlining its demands.
Among its demands, the RDA has sought the immediate removal of videos related to the incident that have allegedly been circulated on social media and other platforms. It has also demanded that any misinformation, if circulated, be corrected and that an apology be issued where necessary.
The association further called for strict measures to prevent the circulation of such videos in future and urged the authorities to protect the professional dignity and reputation of the concerned senior resident doctor.
The RDA also demanded an immediate end to what it described as a one-sided “media trial” of the doctor, stating that no public judgment or decision should be made without giving the concerned doctor an opportunity to present their side.
Another key demand was a ban on unauthorised photography and videography by media personnel, patients or their attendants in hospital wards, OPDs and other patient-care areas. According to the RDA, such activities can compromise the privacy and security of doctors, healthcare workers and patients.
The association has also demanded that an FIR be lodged through the Medical Superintendent against the person allegedly responsible for making false allegations against the doctor, followed by strict legal action.
In addition, the RDA has sought the replacement of the SIS security personnel currently deployed on the hospital premises with Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel and called for adequate and strengthened security arrangements for doctors and healthcare workers.
The RDA said the administration must take immediate steps to ensure a safe and secure working environment for medical professionals and healthcare staff. The association said it would closely monitor the steps taken by the authorities towards addressing its demands.
