Agartala, 30th September 2026 : Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Wednesday chaired the 18th meeting of the State Road Safety Council at the Secretariat, where officials reviewed measures to reduce road accidents and strengthen road safety across Tripura.
The meeting was attended virtually by the Secretaries of the Health, PWD, Finance, and Revenue and Disaster Management departments, along with senior officials of the Transport Department, Director of Higher Education, Superintendent of Traffic Police, and the District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police of all eight districts. Senior officials from other concerned departments also participated.
Speaking at the meeting, Chowdhury called for stronger coordination among government departments to effectively address road safety concerns. He stressed the need for preventive measures aimed at protecting pedestrians, commuters and other road users.
The minister said government initiatives alone could not ensure road safety and underlined the importance of public awareness, responsible driving and active participation of citizens.
“Road safety is the collective responsibility of all of us,” Chowdhury said, calling for coordinated efforts to prevent accidents and promote safer road practices.
