Agartala, 19th April 2025:  The state of Tripura is set to soar to new heights in tourism with plans to introduce seaplane services, promising to connect tourists to major aquatic attractions like Narikel Kunja, Chabimura and Neermahal. In a significant step towards this vision, an important meeting was convened on Saturday at the Secretariat Conference Hall, where Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury along with representatives of a private aviation company discussed the operational details of this ambitious project.

Speaking after the meeting, Minister Chowdhury expressed optimism about the initiative, emphasizing its potential to revolutionize tourism in the state. “Seaplane tourism is an innovative approach that can create unique opportunities for the state. On one hand, it will provide tourists with new and exciting experiences, and on the other, it will contribute significantly to the local economy,” said the minister. He added, “With the necessary groundwork, we can make this service operational in a very short time.”

Representing the aviation company, Siddharth Verma, who joined the meeting via video conference, voiced his enthusiasm for the project. “We are thrilled about the prospect of launching seaplane services in Tripura. We have successfully implemented similar services in other regions, such as the Andaman Islands and Maharashtra, and we are confident in replicating that success here,” said Verma.

The government has expressed particular interest in connecting destinations like Narikel Kunja and Neermahal with the Dumbur reservoir identified as a suitable site for seaplane operations. Explaining the choice, Minister Chowdhury noted, “The Dumbur reservoir offers the ideal conditions for this service. It has a large volume of water throughout the year and provides the required one-kilometer stretch for seaplane landings.”

As a next step, the aviation company is expected to send a technical team to Tripura within the next month to assess the feasibility of the project. However, Minister Chowdhury clarified that no final decision has been made yet. “This is still a work in progress, and we will thoroughly evaluate all aspects before moving forward,” he remarked.

The introduction of seaplane services is being hailed as a game-changer for Tripura’s tourism landscape, aiming to enhance accessibility and bring a modern touch to the state’s travel offerings. Tourists from across the country and abroad could soon find themselves gliding over serene waters to reach the heart of Tripura’s natural and historical treasures.
