State government stands by women’s development, says Tinku Roy on International Women’s Day event

Agartala, March 18, 2023: Youth Affairs and Sports minister Tinku Roy on Saturday said that the central and state governments have taken various schemes for women empowerment and socio-economic upliftment as they should come forward in the successful implementation of all these projects.

Roy on Saturday inaugurated the “International Women’s Day” program organized at Khudiram Bose English Medium School premises here. The event was organized by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports.

Inaugurating the program, YAS minister Roy said “The state government stands by the development of women. But women also need to be inspired in national spirit. Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha has taken the initiative to make Tripura a great state with the cooperation of all irrespective of men and women.”

Addressing the special guest at the event, MLA Kalyani Roy said, “We need to think more about how to prevent domestic violence and female feticide. This work should start from every house.”

Bangladesh international footballers Rehana Parveen and Padma Shri Deepa Karmakar among others spoke on the occasion.

In his welcome speech, the Joint Director of the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports Paimong Mog said that the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has decided to organize various events and sports on the occasion of International Women’s Day from March 8 to March 27 in various states. Today’s program is part of this.

Chess player Arshia Das, gymnast Stishga Samant, cricketer Riju Saha, judoka Sahena Devabarma and NSS volunteer Riya Roy Chowdhury were felicitated by Sports minister Roy with trophies and ‘uttariya’ on the occasion. The players then participated in 100m run, 200m walk, shot put, musical chairs and tug of war. Dronacharya awardee renowned coach Bisweshwar Nandi, Khudiram Bose English Medium School principal Samir Ranjan Das and others were present. Subikash Debbarma, Director of Youth Affairs and Sports Department presided over the programme.
