Agartala, 16th June 2025: The National Health Mission has officially launched the ‘Stop Diarrhea Campaign-2025’ across Tripura, targeting zero child deaths caused by diarrhea. The campaign, which began today, will continue until July 31 and cover all eight districts of the state.
A strategic meeting to plan the campaign’s execution was held at the state secretariat, with participation from senior officials including Tapan Kumar Das, Director of Social Welfare and Social Education; Tapan Majumdar, Director of Health and Family Welfare; and representatives from key departments such as Food, Public Procurement and Consumer Affairs, Panchayat, Information and Cultural Affairs, and School Education.
This year’s campaign centers around the theme, “Diarrhea can be prevented, cleanliness and ORS are your focus,” highlighting the critical roles of hygiene and timely treatment in combating the disease.
The initiative aims to distribute Oral Reydration Salts (ORS) and zinc tablets to over 3,04,000 children under five years of age statewide. The breakdown includes 57,512 children in West Tripura, 45,627 in Sepahijala, 42,779 in North Tripura, 38,096 in Gomati, 36,293 in Dhalai, 32,667 in South Tripura, 26,241 in Khowai, and 25,847 in Unakoti district.
Special attention will be given to vulnerable areas such as aspirational districts, remote blocks, slum localities, flood-prone zones, and places previously affected by diarrhea outbreaks.
Last year, 12,075 children in Tripura suffered from diarrhea; however, all recovered thanks to prompt treatment and awareness campaigns.
The state government has called upon all departments and stakeholders to collaborate closely to ensure the campaign’s success and protect the health of Tripura’s young children.
