Agartala, 11th December 2024: The State-level ‘Bharatiya Bhasha Diwas’ celebration took place at Ambassa Town Hall on Wednesday organized by the School Education Department and managed by the Dhalai district’s District Education Office. The event was inaugurated by Dhalai Zilla Parishad Sabhadipati Sushmita Das, who ceremoniously watered saplings to mark the occasion.
Sabhadipati was accompanied by Ambassa Municipal Council Chairperson Pratima Malakar and District Education Officer Jatan Kumar Debbarma. The program began with guests offering flowers to the portrait of poet Subramaniam Bharati, whose birth anniversary is celebrated as ‘Bharatiya Bhasha Diwas’.
Addressing the attendees, Sushmita Das emphasized the importance of linguistic diversity in India. “India is home to a multitude of languages, each unique to different regions. Students have a unique opportunity to learn multiple languages, enriching their own cultural experience and promoting unity,” she stated. Das highlighted the role of students in advancing society, noting that the diverse languages and cultures of India collectively create a beautiful, unified country.
District Education Officer Jatan Kumar Debbarma reiterated the significance of celebrating Subramaniam Bharati’s birth anniversary. “He was not just a poet but also a freedom fighter. The main purpose of ‘Bharatiya Bhasha Diwas’ is to practice and preserve the diverse languages of India, respecting the linguistic and cultural heritage of all the nations within our country,” he said.
The event featured performances by school students from various parts of the district, who danced to folk songs composed in different languages. The enthusiastic participation of the students added vibrancy to the celebration, highlighting the importance of linguistic and cultural unity.
