State-level workshop sets stage for Census 2027 in Agartala; 11,000 enumerators to drive

Agartala, 27th April 2026:   A state-level workshop was organized at Pragna Bhavan here to prepare for the first phase of the Census of India 2027, marking the beginning of a fully digital enumeration process in Tripura.

The event was jointly organized by the Directorate of Census Operations, Tripura, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, and the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Government of Tripura. Senior officials including Ratan Biswas, Director of Census Operations, Tripura, and Subhash Dasgupta, Deputy Registrar General (ORGI) attended, along with District Magistrates, Additional District Magistrates, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, and other administrative officers from across the state.

Officials announced that nearly 11,000 enumerators will be deployed for the exercise, which will be conducted entirely through digital platforms. The first phase, focusing on house listing and housing census, will run from July 17 to July 31, followed by the main enumeration from August 1 to August 30, spanning 45 days.

During the workshop, detailed discussions were held on CMMS dashboards, HLBC systems, and mobile applications for real-time monitoring and self-enumeration. Training schedules, recruitment of census workers, fund distribution, and inter-agency coordination were reviewed as part of operational planning. Strategies were also outlined to address practical issues that may arise during digital data collection.

Officials emphasized that the digital-first approach will enhance accuracy, transparency, and efficiency in data collection. The Census 2027 is expected to provide critical insights into housing, infrastructure, and demographic patterns, forming the backbone of future policy planning for both Tripura and the nation.
