Villagers in distress over decaying roads at Chechua, Melsi VCs

Date:

Agartala, 27th April 2026:   Persistent road woes have left several Jamatia-dominated villages under Chechua and Melsi Village Committees in Ampi Nagar RD Block, Gomati district, in deep despair. Residents say daily movement has become a struggle due to the dilapidated condition of the main road.

According to locals, the six-kilometer stretch from NH-208 to Garjan Para via Krishna Nagar has remained in a deplorable state for years. Despite repeated appeals to authorities for maintenance, no action has been taken. Villagers now fear driving on the broken and collapsed road, while even pedestrians face serious difficulties navigating the damaged path.

Residents warn that the situation becomes particularly hazardous during rains, especially at night, when the risk of accidents rises sharply. “Elections come and go; leaders appear only to seek votes and then vanish. Nothing is done for us, and year after year we remain the worst victims of road neglect,” lamented a senior citizen of Garjan Para.

Communities across Chechua, Garjan Para, Krishna Nagar, and adjoining areas are demanding immediate renovation of the road to end their decades-long suffering. They urge the concerned authorities to visit the affected villages and take swift action to restore safe communication for these deprived residents.
