State tops in NE in terms of seizures of drugs: CM Dr Saha

Agartala: October 10. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Monday has informed that the state has bagged first position in terms of seizure of drugs and narcotics in the North East region.

After attending NEC plenary session held in Guwahati Chief Minister Dr Saha held a press conference here in Agartala and said since 2018 to August 2022 around 2, 701 persons had been arrested in connection with 1, 776.

“More than 1 lakh 92 thousand Kgs of cannabis, banned cough syrup of 8 lakh 8 thousand and 38 bottles, 45 lakhs 63 thousand tablets and 18,073 grams of Heroin was seized. The total value of the seized items are more than crore”, the CM said.

He further said that he has urged the central government to request the Bangladesh government to complete all facilities for the operationalization of the Maitri Bridge over River Feni, connecting Tripura with Chittagong port in the neighbouring Bangladesh.

 “Prime Minister’s unwavering commitment towards peace and development of the North Eastern Region has seen unprecedented work being done in the last 8 years. “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Viswas and Sabka Prayas” is taking shape in all the North Eastern States. I welcome Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, the Chairman of the NEC. He has taken remarkable steps to develop the Northeast by establishing peace and accelerating development process in the region”, said Dr Saha.

In the meeting CM said that in the bilateral talks between the two countries during recent visit of Prime Minister of Bangladesh to India, trade through Tripura was highlighted. The Indian side reiterated its request for at least one major land port without port restrictions, on the border with NE States, starting with ICP Agartala-Akhaura. 

“Besides, Bangladesh Government may be requested to complete all facilities for the operationalization of the Maitri Bridge over River Feni, connecting Tripura with Chittagong port.  Government of Bangladesh may be requested to give the No Objection for taking up for construction of Integrated Development Complex at Muhurighat and Manughat. There is demand from the traders of Bangladesh and India to allow the movement of goods till the end destination”, said CM.

He also said that Tripura attracts more than 5 lakh domestic and foreign tourists every year for which Tripura Tourism Policy 2020-25 has been introduced in the state.

“The Central Government has plans to establish one AIIMS in every State in the Country under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna. This is also one of the agenda of the Vision Document of the State Government. I would fervently request to fulfil this long-cherished dream of the people of Tripura”, said CM.Apart from these the CM has also spoke on air connectivity, increasing allocation of additional gas to meet up the demands and etc.
