Agartala, 16th April 2026 : A serious incident of alleged violence and campus unrest has been reported from Bir Bikram Memorial College, where a second-semester student, Hiron Das, was reportedly assaulted while visiting the college to submit his assignment today.
According to allegations made by the victim’s family and local residents, the incident escalated when Hiron Das was allegedly stopped by an Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) leader, Tanmay Ghosh, inside the campus. When Hiron objected, he was allegedly confronted by Tanmay Ghosh along with an individual identified as Anik from the GB Bazaar area and several other intoxicated outsiders.
It is further alleged that the group forcibly took Hiron from a classroom into another room, locked the doors and windows, and brutally assaulted him using iron rods, cricket stumps, and wooden sticks. Even after managing to escape the room, he was reportedly chased and attacked again inside the college premises.
The college principal is said to have witnessed the incident but allegedly remained a silent observer, according to claims made by the victim’s family and locals.
Later, local residents rescued the injured student and rushed him to GB Hospital. Doctors reportedly confirmed that he suffered a fractured finger and head injuries.
Following the incident, demands have been raised for the arrest of the accused, including Tanmay Ghosh and other alleged outsiders, through College Tilla Police Outpost. Residents and family members have also questioned the role of authorities and condemned the alleged failure to ensure safety within an educational institution.
