Agartala, 5th July 2024: In yet another display of civic dissent, students in Tripura blocked a major road to voice their opposition against the transfer of a beloved teacher. The incident took place at Baghan Higher Secondary School in Dharmanagar subdivision under North Tripura district, where students rallied against the relocation of Madhumita Routh, a popular Bengali section teacher to Radhapur Higher Secondary School.
“The students burst into anger and staged a road blockade on the Premtala-Jherjheri road, a crucial alternate national highway, starting from 10:30 am,” reported eyewitnesses.
Speaking to the agitated students, BDO of Kadamtala block Himangshu Debnath intervened swiftly to understand their grievances. “The students expressed their frustration over the shortage of teachers in our school system and emphasized their bond with Madhumita Routh,” said Debnath.
“Their studies are at stake due to the teacher shortage,” added one of the protesting students. “We demand that Madhumita Routh remain at Baghan school to ensure continuity in our education,” the student asserted.
Assuring a resolution, BDO Himangshu Debnath promised that Madhumita Routh would be retained at Baghan School without transfer. “Upon receiving this assurance, the students concluded their blockade by 11 am,” confirmed local authorities.
The brief disruption caused significant inconvenience to commuters on the busy highway during the morning rush.
