Agartala, 5th February 2026 : An acute shortage of teachers at Kamalnagar Higher Secondary School triggered a student protest today, with pupils locking the school gates and staging a road blockade to press for immediate appointments ahead of their final examinations.
The students alleged that six teachers had been transferred in the past six months without replacements, leaving them unprepared for the upcoming board exams scheduled from February 17. “We have not had an English teacher for half a year. How are we supposed to write our exams?” one agitated student asked.
Repeated appeals to the school administration and education authorities have gone unanswered, protesters claimed. Frustrated by the inaction, they warned of boycotting the examinations if teachers are not appointed without delay. Many expressed fear of failing in subjects where no classes have been held for months.
The demonstration also saw sharp criticism of the District Education Officer. Students accused him of dismissing their plight, with one remarking, “We are standing under the scorching sun for more than an hour, but the officer said he could not talk under the sun. Isn’t that a joke when we are suffering from such a crisis?”
Parents and local residents have voiced concern that the academic future of hundreds of students is at stake. They urged the Education Department to intervene swiftly and ensure adequate staffing at the school.
The Kamalnagar protest has drawn attention to the wider issue of teacher shortages in rural institutions, raising serious questions about the readiness of the education system ahead of crucial board examinations.
