Agartala, 2nd February 2024 :   A group of students from Kalam Khet Paschim Para Junior Basic School in Tripura staged a road blockade on Friday, protesting against the transfer of one of their teachers. The students locked the school gate and blocked the traffic, demanding that the teacher, Mithun Gope, should not be transferred.

The students claimed that there were only four teachers for 60 students in the primary school, and they could not afford to lose one of them. They said that Gope was a good teacher and they wanted him to stay.

The blockade was lifted after Jitendra Das, the Vice-Chairman of Mohanbhog Block Panchayat Samiti and the Chairman of Block Education Standing Committee, intervened and assured the students and parents that the issue would be resolved soon.

Das later told the media that he had spoken to the teacher and learned that he was transferred to another school that had only one teacher. He said that the transfer was done by the education department to improve the quality of education in the block area, and he hoped that the students would understand the situation.
