Students lock school gate, demand teachers at Laxandhepa HS

Date:

Agartala, 1st July 2026:  Protests erupted at Laxandhepa Higher Secondary School under Nalchar Assembly Constituency on Wednesday morning as students locked the main gate and staged a sit-in demonstration demanding immediate appointment of subject teachers.

Reportedly, the school has a total of 226 students but only six teachers are currently available. Among them, nearly 64 students are enrolled in Classes XI and XII, where teaching has been severely disrupted due to the shortage of faculty. The situation worsened recently after one teacher was transferred, further reducing the already inadequate staff strength.

Students and guardians allege that the absence of subject-specific teachers has been hampering academic activities for a long time. In protest, students launched the agitation, declaring they would continue until vacant posts are filled and a replacement teacher is appointed for the one who was transferred.

The demonstrators warned that unless their demands are met promptly, they will intensify the movement to safeguard their education.
