Agartala, 13th February 2025: Students of Chandpur Secondary School staged a protest on the Assam Agartala National Highway today seeking justice for the assault on their acting principal Bikash Das by a guardian. The incident took place on February 10, escalating tensions within the school community.
It is reported that the altercation began when four students attempted to enter the school after the national anthem. Acting Principal Bikash Das intervened stopping the students. At that moment, Sumati Bardhan, the mother of student Pooja Nath allegedly assaulted the principal and hurled shoes at him.

“The situation became very heated, and we had to inform the local police station,” a teacher at the school recounted. Police arrived promptly and took Sumati Bardhan to the station, which temporarily calmed the situation. However, the police later released her in the afternoon following intervention by the school management committee.
In a twist to the drama, Sumati Bardhan filed a counter-complaint against the principal with the Dharmanagar IS officer. This sparked further unrest as news of the counter-complaint spread among the students, who then blocked the Chandpur area of the Assam Agartala National Highway, demanding justice for the principal and calling for exemplary punishment for the accused guardian.
“We want justice for our principal. Such behavior from a guardian is unacceptable and should not go unpunished,” a protesting student declared.
The local police intervened once more, arriving at the protest site and working to restore order. The students eventually lifted the blockade after being assured by the police station officer-in-charge that the matter would be addressed promptly.
