Agartala, 10th June 2025:    Students of Dharmanagar General Government College staged a road blockade today protesting the transfer of Political Science professor Dr. Satyajit Das. Demonstrators locked the college’s main gate and disrupted traffic for hours, demanding the Education Department revoke its decision.

With over 2,000 students enrolled in the Political Science department and only two professors available, students fear the transfer will further strain academic resources. “We are already struggling with inadequate faculty. Removing Dr. Das without appointing a replacement worsens the crisis,” said a protesting student.

Beyond faculty concerns, students highlighted infrastructural deficiencies. “There are just 100 toilets for over 4,000 female students and most lack water supply,” said another student. With no nearby alternatives, they often rely on a neighboring school for examinations.

Tensions escalated as demonstrators accused Principal Gautam Das of ignoring the situation while remaining in an air-conditioned office. Authorities including Dharmanagar police and subdivision officials attempted to mediate but failed to pacify students.

After six hours, the blockade was lifted following the principal’s assurance that Dr. Das’ transfer had been temporarily postponed and a new professor would be appointed by June 15. With these commitments, students ended their protest, restoring normalcy to traffic in the area.
