Agartala, 6th April 2026: Students of Nasir Nagar High School in South Tripura have raised strong protests over a prolonged teacher shortage and deteriorating infrastructure. Students informed that the school has been functioning without a headmaster for nearly five years, while crucial subjects such as English and Mathematics lack dedicated teachers. At present, only four teachers are managing the entire institution, leaving regular classes disrupted and the quality of education severely affected.
The situation is further compounded by poor infrastructure. Several classrooms lack adequate desks and chairs, forcing teachers to conduct lessons while standing. The school has no provision for safe drinking water or filtration systems, and electricity supply remains either insufficient or non-functional. Secondary-level students preparing for board examinations say they are the worst affected, as classes are irregular and exam preparation has become extremely difficult.
Despite repeated complaints, students allege that no effective steps have been taken by the administration over the past five years. They also claim that senior officials rarely visit the school for inspection. Parents and local residents have expressed deep concern over the future of the children, demanding immediate teacher appointments and urgent infrastructure upgrades.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the school’s development committee, Sudhir Das, faces criticism for his alleged absence and lack of involvement. Community members argue that neither the authorities nor the committee are addressing the crisis, leaving students without guidance or support.
Education activists and concerned citizens have called for urgent intervention by the state education department, stressing that safeguarding the future of students must be treated as a priority.
